Description:-
This is just one trail on the Mendips - there are a lot of variations and I don't always follow the same route - particularly if I'm not paying attention. I'm sure others will be able to add a lot more detail to this popular route.
Start at the Swan in in Rowberrow drop down School lane and along the valley bottom on a track next to the stream
A little way along turn left across the stream and up the other side of the valley for a steep ascent.
Follow the trail round out of the woods to the open area of Beacon Batch.
At the gate go straight across and begin a long gentle ascent up to the trig point which is the highest point on the Mendips. On a clear day you get great views west across to south wales and south across the somerset levels.
Start the descent heading down towards Burrington Combe, fairly steep to start with muddy track with a few rocks and before you run off the open area turn sharp left and follow the path along the hedge line.
This goes up and down and around a few valleys to make an interesting run.
Then back up across the saddle of the hill on the tree line and back towards Dolbury Warren.
You can follow the valley bottom all the way back down to churchill or to make a good circular off road route turn left on the bridel way a little way along.
Follow the tracks up through the woods a couple of short ascents and then a smooth descent down to the valley bottom.
One final acsent up School Lane will take you back to the car park at the Swan.
