Have done the Meall a few times now and always forget what a puff it is! In both directions. If you're after a change of scene from riding at trail centres, a bit of fitness training for an enduro... read whole comment...

Did this in summer on a lovely day this year. Good training run, all landy track once your past the loch, quite rough in places, not even mildly technical. Views are excellent. |

Description:-
Glen Finglas mell trail is a nature trail but well suited for mountain biking and signs indicate bikes are welcome. The start of the route from the car park (1) is very steep and difficult on loose gravel but this is only for a short climb. Once the initial climb is over the track is good but watched the drainage ditches on the bends! after a short down hill you join the water board road (2)leading to what becomes a farm track where the real fun begins. Lots of ups and downs with a twisting track requiring good stamina. upon reaching a fork (3) in the road bear right and follow the track all the way up to the top of the trail which is recognised by a small cairn, i imagine the views from here would be great , alas i did it in heavey rain and mist! From the summit down to the river crossing (4) the route is very fast and very rouge a great adrenaline rush after all the hard work to get to the top. If the river is'nt in spate or after heavy rain it should be easy enough to ford but there is a bridge. follow the track by to the fork from earlier and then back out along the resevoir to the waterboard road here you can either go back up the track you came down(5) or follow the road down to Brig o Turk where you come to the A821 and turn left (6)for the short ride back to the car park. the route cover approx 16.9 miles and took 3hrs 15 mins including breaks.

Description:-
This is just one of many routes you could ride in this area. Turn off the main road at the Byre Inn, and continue along the bumpy track and over the Black Water. Once past the farm, go right onto the sustrans route, and complete the loop in an anti-clockwise direction. Towards the end, it is worth noting there are five or six different ways to descend from the Loch Drunkie Pine Ridge car park.
