Description:-
Rode as two day ride, both of which were very different days. The ride basically takes a nice portion of the Great Glen Way in day 1, the West highland Way in day 2.
Day 1, Drumnadrochit to Fort William. Starting in Drumnadrochit with a BIG hill then enjoying elevated views up the loch. Upon departing Fort Augustus the trails are largely flat following the Caledonian Canal, then rolling along the sides of Loch Oich & Loch Lochy and into Fort William. Well established paths and fore roads etc lend themselves to enjoying the fine views as you go.
Day 2, Fort William to Tyndrum. A more physical day, more natural trails than day 1. The decent into Kinlochleven in particular is good fun, where as the acsent up the top of the Devil Staircase is not. The fire road that takes you part way up is super steep, and sadly we never rode to much to the top of the devils stair case. Then down the otherside and enjoyable trails from the ski station to the train in tyndrum.
notes on the gpx (a few amateur mistakes, first time out)
1, the arrival into fort william involves a missed turn and a little weave through housing estate.
2. the trail in fort wiliam will start and end at our B&B
3. in day, once the devils staircase has been descend, the track will take up the road to the ski station.. NOT recommended, horrible road to ride we were just fighting against the clock to meet our train. follow the WHW path!!
