Winchcombe, the 'Jewel' in the Cotswolds crown, has a fascinating history dating back to ancient Saxon times and is full of character. It is just eight miles from Cheltenham and is easily accessible from J9 (if travelling south) or J11 (if travelling North) of the M5; or the A40 (west) if travelling from Oxford. As such, it provides an ideal base from which to explore. The first route starts at Winchcombe public library (post code: GL54 5PZ). There is a long stay car park behind the library which charges £1 for an all-day ticket and parking is free after 5.30pm. There are on-site toilet facilities, charged at 20p per visit and the village has plenty of cafes and pubs to quench your thirst after the ride.
