Description:-
A long day out that crosses two of the valley ridges. Two short hike-a-bike sections and a long fire road climb lead to a classic descent.
Starting from the free car park at the Priory a gentle warm up on the fire road leads to a short hard push up the BW. The first descent starts smooth, but soon becomes a moderate rock garden - watch out for the gate near the bottom.
A long fire road climb and a short hike-a-bike eventually leads you to the top of the ridge, where sandy sections are interspersed with bogs and a chance to play puddle pot luck. The long final descent is the classic of the Black mountains topped off with an off camber corner and a rock garden finale.
An optional swift half in the Red Lion is followed by a road section and then a long climb back up to the ridge. A gentle climb leads to the final technical descent. This has a hard rocky section and a steep exit onto the fire road. (Note that it is possible to avoid this section - and shorten the route - by descending the starting BW).
