Description:-
1. There is a great little carpark at the bottom of Holford and Hodders Combe Grid Ref ST 154 411 Postcode for Sat Nav is TA5 1RY.
2. From the carpark take a right and follow the road down round a left bend, then take the first right into Combe lane. Follow this lane up past the Combe Hotel on your right.
3. Continue up as it merges into a track and then pass through a wooden gate. After 100 yards the trail opens up into Holford Combe. Here you can follow the river bed up the valley either to the left or right. There are lots of places to cross through the water.
4. Take the left fork in the river and follow the trail up towards Ladys Combe.
5. Granny ring essential here! This climb is quite steep and rocky/rooty at times.
6.7. Once at the top take a right and follow flat trail until you get to a tarmac road.
8. Go straight across this road and follow the trail into Great Bear. This often gets quite muddy and is quite rutty. After approx half a mile this trail brings you out onto a tarmac road. Follow this tarmac road SW just past another tarmac road which joins from the right.
9.10. Peel off right into Dead Womans Ditch trail. Its approx 3.8 miles along this trail to the Trig point at the summit of Beacons Hill. The views from here are fantastic. You can see from Weston to Minehead and across the Severn estuary to Wales.
11.19 Follow route in reverse until you get to Halsway post. Just past here there is Stert Combe. Its quite easy to miss. As you look down the valley to you left (Due North) you can see the Steep Holm island out in Bridgewater bay.
20. Head down this grassy trail, which turns into a narrow rocky gully halfway down. Tis track leads down into Somerton Combe and back into a wooded area. There a sharp right bend into Somerton Combe. Be careful of the fallen tree, it's been made into a ramp and is great for jumping over but can catch you unaware especially if the ramp part has been washed away.
21.22.23 Follow this river into Hodder Combe all the way back to the start point at Holford carpark.
