Description:-
This is based on one from Derek Purdy's book of the same name. I returned via Harehope Burn rather than the road. On a clear day this is a good route over open moorland taking in some of the best views of the Cheviots and towards the Farne Islands. No particular technical difficulties. The bridleway from the mast is indistinct and you may get wet feet in places but well worth it for the sense of freedom you get. I went around anticlockwise but either way would work.
Please park considerately at Old Bewick it is a working farm, keep gateways etc., clear. The verge alongside the high stone wall seems to be the least contentious parking place. Nearby Wooler has facilities.
