Using SatNav or GPS? Use postcode EH45 8NB to reach Glentress, then follow signs for the trail head. From Edinburgh & Peebles Join the A703 to Peebles just south of the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720). Note that the road becomes the A701 between Penicuik and Leadburn, but reverts to being the A703 from Leadburn to Peebles. At Peebles, take a left at the roundabout where the A703 meets the A72. Follow the A72 east towards Innerleithen. Glentress is signposted, with the 7stanes trails signposted a little further on. Follow the road for around 3.5km. The entrance to Glentress is on the left.

Description:-
Possibly the most iconic of the Scottish trail centres, this venue owes much of its popularity to its location, wealth of facilities, and the breadth of trails on offer here.
Situated in the mountain biking Mecca that is the Tweed Valley, Glentress caters to all abilities with trails of green, blue, red and black grades. There is also a skills area and an orange grade freeride park, not to mention various opportunties to work in some of the natural trails in the area, such as the classic Gypsy Glen, for example.
As for facilities, Glentress has the entire works - just remember to bring some change for the showers and the parking meter!

Favourite thing about this loop is that you can arrive at Scotland's busiest trail centre on a sunny public holiday and yet completely escape the masses within the first few miles of the black. Althou... read whole comment...

Gypsy Glen
Av. Trail Rating:

|
Description:-
This trail is actually nothing to do with Glentress at all. But the Glentress car park is a great place to start and finish this ride (although there is a P&D car park at the start of the trail if you prefer to really get away from the crowds). Gypsy Glen is not part of Glentress and it has a totally different character to all the man made stuff in GT. It is very much a natural ride (in fact it is quite 'unmarked' in places), muddy in sections, but worth it for the descent.
This route has you crossing the river Tweed via a small foot bridge at Tag1. Don’t be too surprised when you realise you are in the middle of a golf course (only on the tracks of course). Then there is a wee burn to cross at Tag2 (it was rideable when we crossed it). Then you have lots of fire road to climb most of the way up the hill.
Once you pop out of the trees you have some boggy open heath land to cross and ultimately you climb up to the top of Kirkhope Law (537m). From there you have an undulating descent down the ridgeline all the way back in to Peebles. The descent is fast and grassy in places, but has loads of rocks and interesting features to keep you awake. It has a very natural feel to it.

Did the whole red route but adding on bits of the blue to give a total distance of around 18miles in a slowish 3hr45mins (car to car, parked in the bottom carpark). Every named trail has a different c... read whole comment...

Description:-
Built between 1998 - 2000 and tweaked and updated ever since, the Red is a classic trail that has everything: big climbs, fast flowing descents, jumps and berms in abundance, elevated timber trail, roots and rocks – it’ll leave you grinning from ear to ear!

Didn't do all of the Blue route but did manage most of it whilst doing the Red by doubling back in places. What I did do though was great fun! Betty Blue & Electric Blue flow well, although the former... read whole comment...

The understated blue route at GT is fantastic. For those who think it wont be hard enough time yourself from Buzzards nest down. Top times are around 2.30. Now try it. |

If only all blue-graded loops were this good! This trail proves that a high % of boring fire road is not always implicit in blue grading. Plenty of feature-rich singletrack which is fun to ride whatev... read whole comment...

A great introduction to mountain biking. The trail is silky smooth and has some great features, the best of which is probably the "Berm Baby Berm" section. Guaranteed to have mountain bikers of all levels grinning!

Overall comments about Glentress
Impressive set-up with plenty of parking and swish toilet/changing/shower facilities to justify the £3 parking charge. Trails are fun and well marked, but make sure you take a trail map first time. |

Classic venue, with lots of different trails to ride. The red and blue routes can be a bit busy on a nice weekend, but the black never sees excessive traffic. |
